Lions Community Carnival
About the event
Lions Community Carnival
Join us for a fun family day out in New Milton, for the Lions Community Carnival!
We are proud to be supporting The Lions Club of New Milton & District to deliver the first Lions Community Carnival this spring. There will be lots to see and do, including the carnival parade, street theatre and animated exhibits, live entertainment, a mouth-watering selection of street food and nearly 100 stalls offering crafts, handmade items, artisanal produce and more!
When: Saturday 23rd May, 10:30am – 5pm
Where: The Town Centre, New Milton Recreation Ground and New Milton Hub
A free event for all ages!
Culture in Common is working in partnership with the Lions Club to commission Coda Artists, Heidi, Emily, and Carmel, to deliver a series of workshops to collaboratively build a large-scale lion processional puppet. The lion will be bold, textural and celebratory, using primarily reclaimed and repurposed materials.
The lion will measure approximately 3–4 metres in length and will be operated by a small team of local volunteers during the procession.
Additional prop-making sessions will produce:
- Lion mane headdresses
- Flame and sunburst wands
- Fabric streamers and movement elements
Contact us at cultureincommon@energiseme.org if you are a New Milton based community group and would like to be involved in making.
