In May, Culture in Common brought the local artist Bridget Eastman and Waterside Craft Club together and we were thrilled to see the outcome of the connection at Bridget’s recent exhibition at spudWORKS, entitled “Not Only The Lonely.”
The exhibition, which was an experimental ‘Loneliness Room’ explored loneliness and isolation in the New Forest and how we confront these feelings. The woven room and contents were accompanied by a short film called ‘That’s the Blues’.
On the 7th of August, Bridget hosted the Waterside Craft Club and the Culture in Common team at spudWORKS, explaining how the concept for the exhibition developed and how a bespoke loom had to be made for the weaving to take place. Members of the Waterside craft club were thrilled to see the felt rug which they had created featuring prominently inside the room. The rug is a result of Bridget running 2 felt-making sessions across May and July. Bridget shared that with each session, it was heart-warming to see the group blossom in confidence as the project progressed.

Unlike other Clubs that hibernate during the term time, Waterside Craft Club is dedicated to being a steadfast companion, welcoming you every week of the year. We recognize that life’s commitments can sometimes challenge attendance, but for those who find solace in the warmth of friendship, we are committed to being available year-round.
