As the sun sets on another glorious summer, we can’t help but look back on the unforgettable moments we’ve shared in the wide area of the New Forest. Here’s a glimpse of our summer initiatives and the amazing talents that graced us with their presence:
- Picnics Together
- Picnics took place in Fordingbridge, Woodgreen, Breamore, Hyde and Sandleheath
- Organized by the tireless Claire Godson and Irene Canton of Avon Valley Community Matters
- Culture in Common commissioned skilled professional artists Helen Menges (Ceramics), Simon Chadwick (Cartoonist), Danyah Miller (Storyteller), and Mandy Smith (Nature Art).
- Participants had a blast with artsy activities, and feedback overflowed with enthusiasm:
“More of these days and stuff for toddlers to do in the holidays, please. More picnics, and more outdoor activities, please. The Storytelling was inspiring. The Food was spot on, thank you!”
- Holiday and Food Clubs
- Simon Chadwick (Cartoonist) hosted two dynamic workshops for the Hythe Holiday and Food Club.
- Luke from the Comedy School dazzled with an Improvisation session at the Lymington Holiday and Food Club, courtesy of St Barbe Museum and Gallery.
- The Improv Session was a hit, uniting children from Ukrainian families residing in Lymington, and laughter was the universal language.
- Dance Extravaganza at the Regiment
- The Youth Club at the Regiment in Marchwood was treated to a spectacular dance session by Lizanne and Alex from ZoieLogic Dance.
- Warm-ups with falling and catching had the children on their toes and left a lasting impression:

- Mosaic Magic at Abri Housing Estate
- Helen Wallbridge crafted a delightful mosaic workshop for the young residents of Hythe’s Dominy Close housing estate.
- This event provided a unique opportunity to engage with residents and youngsters, fostering a sense of community and creativity.
- Fawley Dog Show Fun
- Martin Elliot, Simon Chadwick, and Julia Elliot curated a tail-wagging experience at the Fawley Dog Show in Gang Warily Park.
- Activities included Air-Dry Clay, Dog Clothes Design Modelling, and Dog Cartoons, all of which were a howling success. Simon even sketched charming dog cartoons that left owners beaming with delight!
