Can you be ‘KIND’ this year?

‘Kind’ is the word of this year’s SpudFILM Competition, which is open to anyone with a passion for a film and a creative imagination.

Enter your own short film

If you have an idea for a short film (maximum length 6 minutes) then you can enter the competition. There are five categories, including one for local film-makers and another for young people:

  • Best Overall Film (a the overall winner of the competition)
  • Best Youth Film (a filmmaker who is 17 years old or less)
  • Best International Film (a filmmaker who is not a UK resident)
  • Best Smartphone Film  (a film made using a phone camera)
  • Best Local Film (50 mile radius from spudWORKS in Sway, UK)

The criteria

Spud is an arts and education charity based in Sway in the New Forest. They say:

“We will be looking for the most attention grabbing and creative films. We will focus on the strength of the ideas and how they are conveyed through thought-provoking and engaging storytelling.

Be sure that the theme KIND comes across clearly in your film, to be in with the best chance of success! The maximum length of the films should be 6 minutes or less.”

For more information on how to enter and the prizes see the Spud website

Film-making workshops

Culture in Common is supporting the SpudFILM Competition and the SpudFILM Festival, which will take place later in 2023. As part of this we’re working with Spud to run film-making workshops with four groups of young people across the New Forest. These will include sessions on storytelling, filming and editing, plus time to work on an entry to the competition.
