In October 2024, St. George’s Hall/Chapel in Calshot, re-opened after being transformed into a vibrant community space. The refurbished space, which proudly holds the title of the oldest RAF church in the country, originally opened its doors in 1919. It now features a cinema room, a skate park for kids, and ample meeting space for local residents. Following a successful opening day, we are thrilled to see this cherished structure receive the love it deserves and be put to good use once again.
Culture in Common commissioned local historian Marc Heighway to research the history of Calshot, from Henry VIII to the Tristan Da Cunha evacuees of the 1960’s. The history was proudly on display for the event and has remained at the hall for people to view.
