Culture in Common worked alongside the 17 Port Maritime Regiment in Marchwood to deliver their Culture Day celebration on 25th July, welcoming almost 1,000 service families for a fun day of food, music, and cultural activities.
The event included a tantalising offering of African, Caribbean, Nepalese, Fijian and British food made by service families, as well as a marching band, a performance by a Fijian choir, and a range of fun creative activities for children.
Culture in Common contributed to the programme by bringing in the Pantasy Steel Band, drumming workshops led by African Activities, and music from Jungle Cub DJs, helping to add to the vibrant atmosphere of the day.
In the lead up to the event, Culture in Common commissioned African Activities to deliver drumming and dance workshops for young people from military families at Noadswood School and Applemore College. Held during the final week of term, the workshops gave students the opportunity to enjoy a new activity of movement and music.
Working in partnership with the 17 Port Maritime Regiment, the project celebrated the diverse cultures and communities that call the New Forest home. See some photos from the day above!
