In early Autumn 2022, we partnered with the New Forest National Park Authority to provide three artist-led walks for their Walking and Cycling Festival 2022.
Responding to the popularity of pottery in our recent street surveys and public consultation, we commissioned Ceramic Artist, Tash
Fry Kla to lead workshops called From Earth to Tableware which was inspired by the clay pits which can be found in specific areas of the forest.
The three walks, guided by a Park Access Ranger, an environmental expert and the artist, was followed by a hand-building clay workshop in local non-arts venues.
The locations were spread across the New Forest (in Blackfield, Godshill and Brockenhurst) and were designed to attract the 65+ audience and families.
In the first half day experience the hand building ceramic activity was making a cup and printing with foraged leaves. The Godshill half day experience invited participants to photograph mushrooms in the forest and make a decorative hanging mushroom centerpiece coloured with slips.
